Fundy Model Forest has embarked on an exciting new phase, focusing our expertise and resources on communities that have depended on the forest industry and are now struggling with mill closures and other challenges.
We are one of 11 sites in Canada selected in 2007 to deliver Natural Resources Canada, Canadian Forest Service’s new Forest Communities Program.
From now to 2012, we will be helping communities build their capacity to assess their resources and to make informed decisions as they plan for their future and assisting them to develop tools and strategies to help them develop stable local economies. We will also be helping communities capitalize on emerging resource-based economic opportunities and create community ventures based on new types of forest products.
Our partners are ready for the challenge. Since 1992, they have been building successful, diverse collaborations to find local solutions to common issues in resource management.
Our unique strength is our partnership. We are made up of more than 30 dedicated organizations representing diverse perspectives who come together to share information, ideas and resources to achieve a common vision. Our partners include government agencies, municipalities, academic institutions, research organizations, First Nations, environmental organizations and community groups.
We collaborate locally, regionally, and internationally with many other organizations and continue to build our partnership and develop new relationships. We are also a member of the Canadian Model Forest Network and the International Model Forest Network.
